I’ve never been a huge fan of Halloween…but I do love October for its crisp fall air and beautiful colors. (Here in New England, we are known for our leaf peeping!)
One thing I love about this time of year is the MAGIC that fills the air. Not the creepy kind…but the Practical Magic that we can add to our lives in the form of better self care, releasing old patterns and letting go of what no longer serves us.

This season is a perfect time to reconnect back to you…a time to ask yourself important questions and settle into what feels good.

At this particular time of the month, here in the Northern Hemisphere, the moon is in the waning phase, the peak of releasing its energy. I’ve been studying up on the moon and have been fascinated how much it connects to our emotions and biology.

This harvesting phase of the moon is a great time to give up on old habits, clearly communicate your boundaries and review or possibly end toxic relationships. A magical time to let go of old grudges, anger and guilt, finding closure in unresolved issues. A major time to complete things. Just be a bit careful, your emotions are at the front door and you might feel a bit more emotional than normal.

The releasing ritual below is a tool I use to help me clear the deck, so to speak…to let go of anything that I am holding onto that needs to be on its way.

Use this ritual to let go and release anything that no longer serves you. Negative behaviors, thoughts, unhealthy ways of being, attachments, regrets.

You are going to need to gather the following items.
Pen and paper
A small bowl of water
A small bowl of salt (any kind of salt is fine)
A container that can withstand fire (metal is great)

Begin by getting settled and grounded in your body. (To do this close your eyes and picture a tree root traveling from the top of your head, all thru your body into the ground beneath you…thru the earth, traveling down into the deepest part of the earth you can imagine. You could also do some deep breathing or meditation.

Write down what you would like to release. Write as much or as little as you like. Come from a calm thinking space. Do not do this ritual when you are angry or hurt. It is best to come from a place of peace.

Place the candle in front of you and light your piece of paper. As it ignites, imagine what you are releasing rise up and front of you…and fade away into the air, getting smaller and smaller. Take a few deep breaths, and rub your hands together as you watch the paper burn in your fireproof container (bowl). Let it cool.

Take the ashes and scatter them into the salt. Imagine that the salt is absorbing all of the energy and any remaining vibration of what you have set to release.

Now add the salt to the water. Take this bowl and empty it outside. A beautiful conclusion for this ritual would be to empty the bowl under the night sky, but this ritual can be done any time of day.

To end this ritual, stand quietly in prayer or meditation, honoring yourself for the steps you have just taken.

I’m interested to see how it goes for you…write me back and let me know if you try it!
